According to the Palm Beach Post, plainclothes officers shot Corey Jones three times after what a local police official said was a confrontation with an armed suspect. Jones is African-American.

“I have tons of respect for law enforcement. I have friends that are police officers and cops,” Wilfork told reporters. “But at the same time, we’re dealing with somebody that was shot dead. I think everybody needs to be held accountable, plain and simple.”

Wilfork, who grew up in Boynton Beach and played at the University of Miami, said he considered Jones family.

“I think sometimes we have a platform we can use for a certain purpose. This week, this is my purpose,” Wilfork said. “To have the platform I have to speak about it, that’s what it’s all about. … It’s going to be going through my mind until justice is served.”
