In a charming interview with Jimmy Kimmel, the How To Get Away With Murder star shared that although she eats healthily, she is struggling to maintain her weight.
“I turn 56, and I don’t know what fits anymore,” Davis said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! “That’s when it hit. Everything gets wider, bulgier. And here’s the thing, I work out.”
The actress was on the show to promote her new Showtime series The First Lady. She explained that she exercises regularly and eats well but is often shocked to see what the scale reads.
“I get on the scale,” she said. “I look at it. I get back off. I get back on. I get off. And then I’ll even take a hair pin out of my hair. I’ll put it on the side. I get back on. And by that time I’m mad as hell.”
Kimmel went on to share that he “somehow gained five and a half pounds this weekend.”
“I don’t know how it happened but, according to my scale, 5.5 pounds. I don’t think that’s even possible,” he told Davis.
The beloved actress went on to joke that it might have something to do with the extra drinking she’s been doing during the pandemic.
“I think it has something to do with those large glasses of liquor I’ve been drinking during the pandemic,” she laughed. “I’ve been knocking that back.”
Last year, Davis made headlines after a clip of her pretending to take a shot on the red carpet went viral.
Shared on Twitter by Variety, the clip, viewed by millions, saw Davis showing off her acting skills as she mimed drinking a shot in a totally realistic manner, complete with pretend swilling and a fake burning sensation.
Davis is set to appear in a Netflix special alongside Oprah Winfrey later this month filmed at the host’s home in Maui.
Oprah + Viola: A Netflix Special Event launches on April 22 and will feature a discussion about the celebrated actress’ life and illustrious career.
“Sharing my story is incredibly frightening but liberating,” Davis tells Winfrey in a preview. “More importantly, it’s my way of helping people feel less alone in a world that is so isolating. It’s part of the building block of my legacy.”
